Artist Statement

My work explores the space between emotion and form, working with both visual and written language to capture what neither alone could hold.

I begin with feelings that have been sitting with me. Emotions born from years of observing the deeper currents beneath how we react to life. These feelings appear in my mind as organic shapes, which I translate into paintings using familiar visual anchors surrounded by abstract forms. Sometimes a poem reveals what needs to be painted; sometimes the visual work calls for words. This dialogue between mediums allows me to express the full complexity of emotional experience.

Working within warm yellows, oranges, and purples, I explore three territories of human experience: our relationship to our bodies, to others, and to our inner worlds. Each painting requires 50-80 hours of meditative layering. It's a process that transforms both the artwork and my understanding of the emotion being explored.

The poems and paintings exist in conversation, creating contemplative spaces where complexity can be felt and witnessed. My work isn't meant to be solved, but to offer a place where recognition can lead to transformation.
